OUR MISSION

Threshold Repertory Theatre exists to inspire and excite the public through the shared experience of boldly visionary presentations of classic and contemporary theatre and to provide that experience at an affordable cost so that the whole of our community can share in the richness of the theatrical experience.

We hope to enrich the lives of our fellow citizens by offering creative challenging and entertaining productions featuring the collaborative work of the talented performers and artists who have chosen to make Charleston their home and by providing participatory theatre-related educational experiences and programs.

Threshold Repertory Theatre seeks to pay their artists and designers a wage that supports an artistic lifestyle. We seek to identify and encourage exciting new talent, especially local performers and playwrights, through programs designed to introduce, develop and champion their work.

Through a commitment to excellence, innovation, experiment, and affordable cost Threshold Repertory Theatre hopes to discover and develop a new audience of passionate and engaged theatre-goers.

OUR HISTORY

Threshold Repertory Theatre was founded in 2010 by Former Artistic Director, Pamela Galle. Threshold Rep established its home at 84 1/2 Society Street during it’s second season in 2011. Located in a prime area between residential downtown properties and thriving downtown shops, 84 1/2 Society Street makes a great location for residents and tourists alike. With a reasonably priced outdoor parking lot located behind the theater, access to the location is easy for all attendees. The 99 seat black box theater makes theatrical experiences come to life and gives audiences the impression that they are part of the show.

Threshold Repertory Theatre provides high caliber live theatre to the Lowcountry. We showcase 5 main stage shows a year. Our auditions are open to the public and are paid positions. Threshold Rep is a popular space for visiting artists. Rental rates are available by inquiry. Our box office is staffed by volunteers and is stocked with concessions ranging from soda, wine and beer to M&M's. As a rapidly developing downtown performing arts center our future offerings reflect our community involvement and partnerships with local businesses.

Black Lives Matter

We stand against racial discrimination in all its forms.

We stand in support of the strong and peaceful movement in protest of police discrimination and brutality against our black brothers and sisters.

We stand with the nation and with the world in horror at the appalling murder of George Floyd.

We stand with heavy hearts in remembrance of the Emanuel Nine and Walter Scott.

We stand with weary shoulders yet growing strength as together we bear the burden of history's bigotry, oppression, segregation, Jim Crow, and slavery.

We stand in respect with the painful knowledge that Charleston was built brick by brick with the hands of slaves, its wealth on the backs of slave labor.

We stand with those who will never forget our past but who believe we can build a better future.

We stand with hope that while racism will always be a part of our past it will not be a part of our future.

We stand in belief that we can build a better and more compassionate world together.

Every human life deserves respect, dignity, and love, and when we all truly believe this, then no one will be forced to insist that their lives matter ever again.
